Staggering Statistics

According to the CDC, every day about ten people die from unintentional drowning.

I've become obsessed with drowning prevention. I've been teaching swimming for so long that sometimes I find myself just going through the motions. My students continue to learn and progress, but I don't have to think about what I'm doing. It's second nature.  At this point, it's time to turn it up a notch.

Sometimes I have to remind myself of the big picture, of the fact that I'm teaching a life-saving skill. So I research, network and connect with others that have devoted their lives to drowning prevention. I read about what individuals and groups are doing at a community level and attend conferences where I meet people from all over the world with the same mission statement/ motto/ vision/ goal/ purpose. Everyone should  be on board to raise awareness about this silent epidemic. Here's why...
