Eleuthera Outreach 2022

In June 2022, after a two year hiatus (Thank You, Covid pandemic), Kim Shults (Face in Water) and Alissa Magrum (Colin's Hope) were excited to lend their support and water safety resources to the Learn-to-Swim Program at the One Eleuthera Foundation (OEF) on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas.

For six months prior, Alissa and Kim had been meeting virtually with the OEF team to learn the needs of the program and develop solid relationships. In June, they traveled with a small team including Peri Kowal and two recent high school graduates, Ella Magrum-Stanley and Emily Mayer.

During the first week on the island, they trained swim lesson instructors and community water safety ambassadors to prepare for a 6-week, learn-to-swim camp. Then, in the second week, the team provided assistance as the OEF team began teaching both children and adults to swim. While there, they participated in the World's Largest Swimming Lesson as an added bonus. It was an epic adventure, equipping children and adults in this island community with skills and tools to be safer in and around the water. They contiued virutal support throughout the camp and have been receiving updates, photos, and videos from the instructors. The progress being made is absolutely incredible and it is clear to see that the One Eleuthera team is dedicated to the swimming and water safety program.

Since the outreach was such a huge success, Face in Water has committed to a continued partnership with the One Eleuthera Foundation. We are already planning for the next Swimming and Water Safety Outreach in 2023. The team humbly asks for any support you can give to help cover travel costs and program supplies (lifeguard rescue tubes, kickboards, swimsuits, swimming and water safety curriculum materials). We are so grateful to be able to share our expertise with the wonderful community on Eleuthera. Thank you in advance for your generosity and encouragement.
